Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 Dmz guide

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 DMZ extraction mode: early access from October 20, the loot-fight-extract loop, operator rewards, and what this page tracks.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 launches on Steam on Oct 22, 2026 at $69.99. Campaign early access opened October 16; DMZ early access opens October 20. Last verified 2026-10-16.

Early access

DMZ early access opens October 20, 2026, two days before launch. Unlike campaign early access, this one is not playable yet when this page was written.

The loop

DMZ is a sandbox built on loot, fight, negotiate, betray, extract. You enter with what you carry and you leave with what you can take out. Extraction is the whole risk model — dying loses what you were carrying.

Pre-purchase editions include the Hunter Killer Operator Skin and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack, both usable in DMZ at launch.

What this page carries

  • Item spawn weights and container rarity tiers
  • Extraction-point availability by map
  • Operator kits and how they change survival odds
  • Which rewards carry over to the full game

What DMZ is

DMZ is Modern Warfare 4’s extraction mode. You deploy onto a map with a loadout, and the objective is to leave with it. Dying does not return your gear — that is the entire tension of the mode. Every decision about whether to take a fight, push a building, or rotate to an extraction point runs through the same question: can I afford to lose this?

That inversion is what separates DMZ from every other Call of Duty mode. In multiplayer, a death costs a respawn and some scoreboard position. In DMZ it costs the run.

Why DMZ needs its own pages, not campaign reuses

A map that works in campaign behaves differently in DMZ for three structural reasons:

  1. Cover is currency. In campaign, cover is a tool. In DMZ it is also the thing standing between you and an enemy who will shoot your best gear.
  2. Sightlines are priced. A sightline you would happily trade into in a respawn mode is one you avoid entirely in extraction, because the enemy gets your kit when they win it.
  3. Time is the real opponent. Rotation pressure means a fight you could win on paper can still be a losing trade if it started too late.

The three DMZ early-access questions

DMZ early access opens Oct 20, 2026 — two days before full launch, and after campaign early access has already been live since Oct 16. That gap is short, and it makes DMZ the most actively-changing part of this wiki during launch week.

Three questions this page answers first, in this order:

  • Where do you extract? Extraction points determine safe routes, and they change what a good position even is.
  • What is worth taking? The loot table decides which buildings are worth the risk of entering.
  • When do you leave? The decision to push or rotate is the mode’s core skill, and it is the hardest thing to teach in text.

AI-controlled enemies

DMZ’s headline feature is AI-controlled opposition filling the maps. That changes encounter design in a way that matters for documentation: the threat is not evenly distributed, it has density and pattern, and where you meet it is a choice you made rather than a spawn roll.

The documentation value is real — knowing where AI concentrates is worth as much as knowing a map’s cover layout — but it is also the thing most likely to be patched early. Treat launch-week AI behaviour as provisional.

Loot and the value of knowing the table

Extraction modes live or die on whether the loot table is legible. If you cannot tell whether a room holds a mid-tier item or a scrap, you cannot make a rational decision to enter it. This page therefore prioritises the loot table over the map breakdown, on the assumption that a player who knows what is worth taking can work out the rest.

The release schedule this page follows

Three dates govern what is verifiable about Modern Warfare 4, and this page updates against all three:

DateMilestoneWhat becomes verifiable
Oct 16, 2026Campaign early accessCampaign content goes live
Oct 20, 2026DMZ early accessDMZ content goes live
Oct 22, 2026Full launch ($69.99)Everything else unlocks

Anything published before the relevant date is a prediction, not a fact. This wiki marks it as one.

What this page will not tell you

Modern Warfare 4 ships Oct 22, 2026 and this page is written ahead of it. That creates an obvious temptation to fill the gap with plausible-sounding numbers, and it is a trap: wrong numbers that look authoritative are worse than an honest gap, because readers cannot tell which are which.

So the rule here is simple. Every figure and every name on this page is quoted from Activision, from the Steam store listing, or from the published schedule. Where something is genuinely unknown, this page says “not published yet” rather than estimating. When the game ships, these entries get replaced with the real thing.
